WHAT:

Beginning with a one month art exhibit "Brown Strokes on a White Canvas" (June 1st – 30th,George Mason University, Arlington, Virginia) and ending with a huge community picnic and sports festival (June 29th, Bohrer Park, Gaithersburg, Maryland), the Philippine Festival Committee 2003 (PFC) of the Philippine American Foundation for Charities, Inc. (PAFC), will launch a series of major community events during the month of June 2003. Net proceeds from many of these events will be contributed to worthy charitable causes.

WHO:

The Philippine Festival Committee 2003 (PFC) is a group of dedicated volunteers from the various Filipino, Filipino-American and mainstream communities throughout the metropolitan area. The Philippine American Foundation for Charities, Inc. (PAFC) is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization that undertakes charitable, educational and cultural projects.

WHY:

A major purpose of this year's festival is to continue the valuable charitable work that the Filipino American community is well known for. This is a major series of events that coincides with the annual June 12th celebration of the independence of the Republic of the Philippines. Also, the current global "war on terrorism", joint mutual defense treaties between the Philippines and the United States, plus other sensitive matters have precipitated the need for better understanding regarding the cultural contributions and diversity of Filipinos and Filipino Americans. This festival helps serve that purpose, too. (Note: Filipino-Americans continue to be the fastest growing Asian Pacific American group of naturalized citizens in the U.S.).

WHEN:

Various events scheduled throughout the month of June. You may view the latest calendar at www.PhilippineFestival.org

WHERE:

Various venues throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan and suburban areas. More information is available at www.PhilippineFestival.org
